a quick question~

first off I wanna say great job on Lunar ;D as a n00b programmer its fun to have something like this to have fun and practice writing some code at the same time ^^ I am eagerly awaiting the next release so that I can add get started again (I have the whole chat log not working/cant exit problem lol)

anyway, onto my reason for posting ~

Upon the release of the next version I wanna make an ambitious script, but nothing too complex, and I think I could write a "run from one place to another" type script using pathnoding. It shouldn't be that hard once I have the coordinate data for my nodes. It is designed for those times when you are on your way to an exp party or a sky event or whatever and you get called away from the computer. But of course there's the lazy people that would overuse it, so I would make it run you to the end of the current zone and stop/make a noise. My question is, would this be classed as a bad script/bot type of thing, as it's designed for unattended play, if only for a short time. I would not include any kind of code for sneaking past mobs. It's designed for high level people running from Jeuno to zitah or from teleport crystals to rabao/sea serpent grotto/feiyin etc.
I would really like to make this script, more for the "see if I can do it" factor than anything else, but I will try and find something else if this would be deemed inappropriate.
Any kind of feedback/suggestions would be appreciated ^^

I don't see this as a bad thing. It doesn't make you money, get skill ups, or make exp. The only benefit is the elimination of tedious running between points. So yeah, go ahead. Make sure to post the results here. I will try to get a fixed version out as soon as I can after treasures comes out, but its going to be tough. Expansions are always followed by patches, and patches make all sorts of trouble for memlocs.

I think that kind of thing would be acceptable,because you're not actually doing anything.You're not skilling up,you're not crafting anything,you're not camping a NM spawn.You are making a aid to a tedious/repedative aspect of the game,and I think that was one of the intentions of lunar.It's a far cry to go to the bathroom and grab a soda while you are traveling than it is to have a script fish or claim a mob for you.

^^ thanks for the responses. I'll be sure to post the script with an explanation of how it works once it's done. I wanna give the new version a good old test drive to see which of the methods I've been thinking of will be best.

and Tiny, take your time ^^ don't wear yourself out. I know lots of people wanna get their hands on the new version ASAP, but in the end we all appreciate the work you put into this

I had an idea a while back where the user could record paths and replay them. This was back when I wrote Travel Distance. I'll probably be back on FFXI in a few days.. or weeks. At any rate, I might get back to writing the script.

WoW is down. DDO is getting boring. I'm waiting to get ToAU for FFXI tomorrow. The only thing left is to get back to that Lunar site. Back to work, lol.

a bubblie bernie type of script is something I definately dont want this to be used for. I've come up with a couple of ideas where the script could try and detect if this kind of thing is happening, and halt the script..or worse But I need to go do some reading up on Lua to see if it's possible to do the way I'm thinking of. If all goes well, I'll be able to 'hide' the code that does all this stuff in between the main script so that random n00bs looking for a quick gil won't be able to remove it.
